Chapter 1
What selling on Amazon India means in 2026
Selling on Amazon means listing your products on Amazon.in through Seller Central, where you control the listing, price and stock while Amazon handles the storefront, payments and, if you choose, storage and delivery. Amazon India’s seller base passed 20 lakh in September 2026, with more than 3 lakh sellers joining in the past year. More sellers means more listings in every search, and the listing that wins the click is usually the one with clearer images and a complete detail page.

For brands, the practical question is not whether to sell on Amazon but how to stand out once listed. The rest of this guide covers the rules that decide that, and our complete Amazon product photography guide goes deeper on the images.
Chapter 2
How to start selling on Amazon, step by step
1
Keep your documents ready
You need a PAN, an active bank account, identity and address proof, and a GSTIN unless every product you sell is GST-exempt. Match your details on the GST portal before you start, so verification does not stall.
2
Register on Seller Central
Sign up at sell.amazon.in with a business email and mobile number, then finish tax, identity and bank checks.
3
Apply for Brand Registry
With a registered or applied-for trademark, enrol through Amazon Brand Registry. It unlocks A+ Content, Brand Story, listing video, Sponsored Brands and tools to report copies of your listing.
4
Pick a fulfilment method
FBA, Easy Ship or Self Ship each change your fees, delivery speed and exposure to cancellation penalties. The fulfilment comparison helps you choose.
5
Price with the 2026 fees in mind
Referral, closing, shipping or FBA fees, storage, returns, GST and ads all come out of each sale. Run every SKU through the Amazon fee calculator before you fix an MRP.
6
Shoot the whole image set in one session
Planning the main image, secondary images and A+ assets together keeps lighting and colour consistent and costs less than three separate shoots. See how many photos each listing needs.
7
List, launch and review weekly
Fill every attribute and variation, then watch sessions, conversion rate and return reasons each week. Put ad money behind ASINs that already convert.
Chapter 3
Amazon image requirements in 2026
Amazon checks the main image more strictly than any other slot, because it appears in search results next to your competitors (see it in the Amazon screen walkthrough). A main image that breaks the rules can suppress the whole listing. The other slots are where you sell: fit, detail, scale and what comes in the box.

Shoot off-model, as a flat lay or on a form
A listing can hold a main image plus up to eight more (named PT01 to PT08 in bulk uploads) and a video. A plan that works for most categories: main on white, on-model or in-use, a second angle, a detail close-up, a scale or size shot, what’s in the box, and an infographic of key features. Fashion brands can follow our clothing photography guide, and better secondary images also cut return rates.

A+ Content replaces the plain description with image-led modules further down the product page. It’s available to brand-registered sellers, and it is where you explain the product the main image can’t: materials, sizing, the story behind the brand and how the range fits together.

What gets A+ rejected
Amazon’s reviewers reject modules that mention prices, discounts or “free shipping”, make claims such as “best” or “#1”, promise delivery times, quote customer reviews, compare against named competitors, include phone numbers, emails or URLs, or use blurry and text-heavy images with typos. Time-bound words like “new” or “latest” are also flagged.
Shoot A+ in the same session as the listing images. Same light, same colour, same model. Shoppers notice when the banner and the gallery look like two different brands.
Brand-registered sellers can add video to the image block and, with Premium A+, to the detail page. Keep it to the product: show it in use, turning, opening or being worn. Leave out prices, offers, contact details, links to other sites and references to competitors. Shoot in 16:9 at 1080p or higher, and plan a vertical cut for ads at the same time.
Here is a home-category example: an orthopaedic pillow filmed for its Amazon listing, showing shape, materials and how it supports the neck.
Each order carries a referral fee by category, a closing fee by price band, a shipping or FBA fee, and 18% GST on those fees, which registered sellers can usually claim as input credit. Three changes this year matter most.
Zero referral fee under ₹1,000 from 16 March 2026, across 1,800+ categories, alongside lower shipping and closing fees on low-priced items.
Higher closing fees from 7 September 2026: ₹1 more per unit up to ₹500 and ₹3 more above ₹500, across FBA, Easy Ship and Seller Flex.
Cancellation fee by order value from 17 August 2026, for seller-initiated cancellations on Easy Ship and Self Ship. Buyer cancellations are not charged.

Many brands mix methods: FBA for top sellers and Easy Ship for the long tail. If you sell on more than one marketplace, compare these options with the Flipkart seller hub, and keep your images consistent across platforms using our marketplace photography standards.
Chapter 8
Festive season checklist for Amazon sellers
The Great Indian Festival’s main sale opens on 8 October 2026, with early deals live since 25 September and Diwali on 8 November. Tick off what’s done; your progress is saved in this browser.
Register on Seller Central with your PAN, GSTIN, bank account and identity proof, choose a fulfilment method, list your products with complete attributes and upload compliant images. Brand owners should also apply for Brand Registry to unlock A+ Content and listing video.
What are Amazon’s main image requirements?
The main image needs a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), the product filling about 85% of the frame, at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side for zoom, and no text, logos, badges, borders or extra props.
How many images can an Amazon listing have?
A listing can show a main image plus up to eight additional images, named PT01 to PT08 in bulk uploads, and a video. Seven or more images is a good target for most categories.
Is the Amazon referral fee zero in 2026?
From 16 March 2026, Amazon removed the referral fee on products priced under ₹1,000 across more than 1,800 categories. Closing, shipping or FBA fees and GST still apply, and closing fees rose slightly from 7 September 2026.
What is the Amazon seller cancellation fee now?
Since 17 August 2026, seller-initiated cancellations on Easy Ship and Self Ship cost 10% of order value up to ₹10,000, 8% up to ₹50,000, 5% up to ₹1,00,000 and 2% above that, plus 18% GST. Buyer cancellations are not charged.
Do I need Brand Registry for A+ Content?
Yes. A+ Content, Brand Story and listing video are available to sellers enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, which requires a registered or pending trademark.
Can I use AI-generated models in Amazon images?
Amazon’s July 2026 rule requires photorealistic AI-generated people to be labelled with the contains-synthetic-performer tag in the image’s XMP metadata. Shoppers still judge fit and fabric on real models, so many fashion brands keep real on-model photography for key slots.
How long does an Amazon catalogue shoot take with Ckstudio?
It depends on SKU count and the formats you need. Share your SKU list on WhatsApp and we confirm a shoot slot and delivery date before you send the products.
We map each ASIN to its main image, secondary slots and A+ needs.
